James Salter James Salter is the author of the novels Solo Faces, Light Years, A Sport and a Pastime, The Arm of Flesh (revised as Cassada), and The Hunters; his memoirs include Gods of Tin and Burning the Days. His story collections are, Dusk and Other Stories, which won the 1989 PEN/Faulkner Award, and Last Night. His memoir, Burning the Days, chronicles the impact of his experiences at West Point, in the Air Force, and as an expatriate in Europe. He has also writtten screenplays, travel essays, and journalism. Salter was elected to The American Academy of Arts and Letters in 2000.
